Social and Emotional DevelopmentEnabling children to develop their God-given potential, we encourage children to develop social skills such as self-control and cooperation. Their development of independence, self-confidence and the desire to learn is our goal. Children develop a positive self-image when they can say, “I made it myself.” By providing guidelines and then allowing children to experiment with art tools and techniques they will be able to have the sense of accomplishment that comes from completing a task independently. In our discovery room children are able to choose from a variety of activities designed to stimulate their curiosity while developing independence and self-confidence. Cooperative play and sharing of materials are encouraged. Through dramatic play in our theme area, the children learn about themselves, their families and the world around them. Dramatic play helps children learn about the way others act, think and feel. As they “try on” roles they develop communication skills and learn cooperation. Our
daily schedule remains
flexible but has a routine for the children
to feel secure and make a positive separation from home.
