More About St. James

St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded in 1818 as part of a Union church with St. James Reformed Church (now St. James United Church of Christ.) Residents of Limerick wanted a church near their homes where they could worship and have the Gospel preached to them. The congregation included English and German speaking residents of the Limerick Township area.

One of the most significant events in the life of the church was the splitting of that union and the construction of this building in 1964. This has allowed the church to grow and reach out to many new people.

With this rich history, St. James is continuing to move into the future with confidence, excitement and hope. As the local community and society in general has changed, St. James is constantly looking for new ways to live out our mission statement…to grow closer in loving God and finding new ways to share this love with our neighbor!

One way is to broaden our service, reaching out nearby, around the country and outside of our borders.  Another way we follow our Mission Statement is by enlarging our parking area as well as working on a Building Expansion to invite more people into this community!

St. James is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and is located in the Southeastern PA Synod.  We support and are involved in many of the Synod's ministry, including a dynamic SEPA Youth Ministry.
